About Lydia
I’m Lydia Turino, founder and lead planner of Miriam Events Company. I’m in the business of events because I believe in the sheer humanness, the connection, and the beauty of gathering, and the balance between the temporary nature of the day and the permanence of the memories.
I will be your biggest advocate in the planning process and two steps ahead of you on your big day. Chances are high that I will tear up at your vows. Think of me as your personal, badass, fairy-sidekick - you’ll barely notice me, until you need me. Then I’ll be right there.
I believe that celebrations are inherently important things - in a divided world, events bring us together.
As both an event planner and an eldest daughter, juggling moving parts is second nature to me. Armed with a degree in event management and a background in venue management, fundraising, and concert production - I know what it means to look at an event from every angle. I bring an attention to your guest's experience and an uncompromising eye for detail to every event. The first party I ever planned was for my brother’s seventh birthday - I was ten, and yes, it was amazing.
Who are you and what do you do?
Lydia Turino, Owner & Lead Planner of Miriam Events Co. I am a full service event planner based in Madison, WI. I specialize in weddings and other design heavy events - think galas, styled shoots, and upscale parties. My MO is making sure my clients have the event that they want, no matter how untraditional or specific it may be, and I put a strong focus on guest experience. I'm your girl for any event that is not only beautiful, but seamless and so fun as well.
How did your business come about?
My business is the culmination of 5+ years in this industry and a degree in event management. I've always known I wanted to own my own business, as both sides of my family for many generations are business owners, I just never knew exactly what that would look like. Finally, after building up a strong vendor network, I felt confident in my ability to branch out on my own.
Any advice for those looking to break out into entrepreneurship and into the field that you specialize in?
Breaking into entrepreneurship feels like flinging yourself off a cliff head first with no parachute - do it anyway. It will be so worth it, and if you don't do it you'll be wondering forever how it would have gone if you did. It also never hurts to reach out to business owners you look up to. All of us started not knowing what we're doing, and it's an honor to mentor people and teach those that are interested to learn. As a business owner, specifically in the service industry, your network is everything. Never underestimate that.
As far as the events industry goes, just start anywhere. All experience in the field is valuable, whether that's assisting a wedding planner, volunteering at a fundraiser, or applying to work at a concert venue. Secondly, look to experts around you. Read articles. watch documentaries. It is a real learn by doing industry, but also one that values expertise. Stick with it and look for any experience you can.
